We had 3 rescued dogs at our place out here in the country. We recently lost our yellow lab mix "Bubba" and decided to bring our rescued hounddog "Bunny" inside the house full time. This photo shows that she has taken to her new inside digs very nicely. Just happened to have a "throw" on the couch folded to show the word "friends". Didn't even realize it till after the shot. She & our "Dobie" are adjusting to their new friendship.

I’m not much of a stick or ball dog…I can take them or leave them, but mostly, I leave them. But this one time at the dog park, I surprised everyone. I blame it all on the Chocolate Lab…he started it.
It had rained for several days, and the back corner of the dog park was a fabulous, mud filled lake. It had one of those plastic temporary fences around it, you know, the flimsy ones with plastic mesh suspended in between two poles. Apparently, that was supposed to keep us out of this glorious mud hole…but other dogs had clearly jumped this laughable attempt at a barrier, so some parts of the fence were underwater already.
This one guy kept throwing sticks into the muddy water and his Chocolate Lab would go running in after them. Those crazy labs, they’ll go anywhere to fetch a stick. I was pretty much just minding my own business, trotting around the perimeter of the park, peeing on everything, like I always do. But when I got next to the lake, something happened. Maybe it was instinct, maybe it timing, perhaps I was jealous of that silly lab, maybe I was feeling like a puppy again (I’m 10 years old, you know…far from a spring chicken) but whatever it was, it hypnotized me. I had to have a stick and I wanted in that mud.
I approached the lake with a spring in my step. Despite my advanced years, I’m still quick and agile and I don’t look my age. I still get carded for bones! Anyway, my timing was impeccable as I watched the guy release that stick. I went flying by him at full speed, gave a grunt to the lab as I passed by him and then jumped that silly fence with ease. I touched down in the middle of the mud and quickly realized the stick had already gone under. Not to be outsmarted by a stick, I immediately channeled my inner dolphin and dove under for it…face first and all the way under. The only thing above the water was my tail, which could be quickly converted into a rudder, if necessary.
It took me a second to find that stick in the mud (ha! Get it…stick in the mud? Man, I am hilarious) but I managed to get a mouth on it. When I came back up above the water, there were a bunch of people standing around laughing, my Mom included. The only one that didn’t look amused was the Chocolate lab, but his man quickly got another stick and continued the stick/mud game with him. As for my Mom, I guess she thought since I was already covered from head to toe, why not keep playing! She went over to the woods and picked out a nice one and we played like that for a good, long time.
Needless to say, I got a very thorough bath that night, but it was worth every minute of it.
